The first edition of the ‘Off’ Festival – five free concerts in five different venues, endorsed by the Malta Jazz Festival, will kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m. with a masterclass by jazz musician and Malta Jazz Festival director Sandro Zerafa at the Euro Institute for Music and Arts, 631, St Joseph High Street, Ħamrun (tel: 2122 6555 or www.euroinstitutemalta.com).

These peripheral events will showcase mainly local talent, with foreign participation as well. Some of the featured artists include vocalist Francesca Galea, percussionist Charles Gatt, saxophone player Robin Nicaise, young talent Carlo Muscat and established saxophone player Walter Vella with his world jazz project ‘Trania’.

The second event on July 11 at 9 p.m. will feature the Carlo Muscat trio at Coach and Horses pub in Msida (tel: 9984 8199 or e-mail coachandhorsesmalta@gmail.com).

Walter Vella ‘Trania’ will be playing at Juul’s Reggae and Chill-Out Bar in St Julian’s on July 12 at 8 p.m. (tel: 9989 8444).

Francesca Galea will be at Trabuxu Bistro in Valletta on July 13 at 8 p.m. (tel: 2122 0357) and the Robin Nicaise trio will be at Bridge Bar in Valletta on July 17 at 8 p.m.

The last event on July 18 at 8 p.m., at Taverna Sugu in Vittoriosa, features a performance by Charles Gatt (tel: 2788 1122/7788 1122 or www.sugu.com.mt)
