Greek MPs have backed a second bill to implement a tough cuts package, clearing the final hurdle for vital bailout funds to be released.

With the country facing a crippling debt crisis, the European Union and International Monetary Fund had demanded Parliament pass two bills - an austerity law and a second bill detailing how it will be implemented.

Only then would they approve a 12 billion euro (£10.4 billion) instalment from the country's 110 billion euro (£96 billion) package of rescue loans.

Parliament passed the second law by majority vote today.

The austerity measures have been met with resistance, with two days of rioting in the lead-up to Wednesday's vote. More than 300 people were injured.
