China opens longest sea bridge
China has opened the world's longest cross-sea bridge.
The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 26 miles long and links China's eastern port city of Qingdao to an offshore island, Huangdao.
State-run CCTV says the 35-metre-wide bridge is the longest of its kind and cost more than 10 billion yuan.
Chinese TV reports said the bridge passed construction appraisals on Monday and the bridge and an undersea tunnel opened to traffic today.
It has taken four years to build the bridge, which is supported by more than 5,000 pillars.
According to Guinness World Records, the previous record holder for a bridge over water is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana. The Chinese bridge is more than 2.5 miles longer.

10,000,000,000.00 CNY = 1,069,029,754.55 EUR for 26 miles
Malta to Gozo ~ 5 miles
Cost of Malta - Għawdex bridge based on Chinese costs €1,923,076,923.92
Għawdxin, pick up your pick and start digging.
26 miles 41.8429 take it as 43 km
Costs €232,558,139 per kilometre or 232,558 per metre with 35 metres wide or per 35 sq metre or 6644.5 per sq metre
Breakwater bridge = how long? Say 30 metres but I am sure it is less.
30 metres x 5 metres wide - 150 sq metres
150 sq metres x 6644.5 = €996,677 or round it up to €1 million.
And it is going to cost us at least 2.3 million.

That sort of calculation is complete and utter nonsense. Apples and oranges.

Would be nice for athletes to run a full marathon over such a bridge !

I wonder if we can enter the Guinness World Records for the shortest bridge which no one will be allowed to cross, costing the most money and leading to nowhere.
