Snoop Dogg: I'm a superstar...You gotta wait
Hip hop legend Snoop Dogg said today that he appreciated being welcomed "with open arms,” when he arrived in Malta, saying the island has a “beautiful atmosphere”
But he lost it when he was asked why he had left reporters waiting for a total of four hours over two days before he showed up.
“Well nigga, you wait for another four hours, that’s what it is when you’re dealing with a superstar, you gotta wait, now, you just f****** your question up, get your ass outta here,” the hip hop artiste said when asked why he didn’t show up to a press event where journalists, Maltese and foreign, had waited for two hours yesterday and close to another two hours today.
Earlier on, he said he was inspired by “people” such as the 50,000 people expected to turn up at tonight’s Isle of MTV concert, which is set to feature collaborators Far East Movement along with LMFAO and Parade.

Superstar?? !!!
What a difference between this punk's behaviour and that of Brad Pitt and Anjolina Jolie. I would like to add that I am not a fan of their's, however their attitude is one to be commended whilst that of Mr S. Dogg is totally disrespectful.
Mr Robert James

Snoop Dogg is not a punk he is a rapper. Punks are nicer people and are more relevant to the world.

Snoop’s manners are poor and awful, however controversy is the biggest part of their game. Does anyone expect snoop to be on time and polite? Seriously? As a country we need to start taking these issues lightly. How can you ever ask Snoop such a question question? It’s like playing Russian roulette with one person. Bang! People’s comments below just show that in Malta we lack entertainment knowledge and understanding. Should he have been on time and polite, everybody would have forgot about him the following day. Forget what he speaks about on stage. Forget love, forget peace and what ever follows. Snoop is about being bad and being different.

Mr Doog must also have a super ego. What if he were Mars or Jupiter or Pluto, would his ego be greater?Calling someone a nigga, was he addressing himself ,because having such ego he might have been looking at his own image in a mirror he may well be constantly carrying with him.
For God's sake let's stop getting such idiots to our country and exposing our youth to such super fools!Surely we are not being honoured by accepting anyone whether a super star or just a tiny meteor.

HOWEVER
Criticising One Of The Biggest Names In The Rap Indusry Internationally Regarding His Performance Is Idiotic!!!
Snoop Dogg Was The Main Event Because He Is The Biggest Name MTV Ever Got To This Island!!!
Yeah perhaps his mentality is totally different to Us Maltese People....Thats the whole reason why great rappers like Eminem Didnt Come....Only Awesome Rapper That Came Before Snoop Was Immortal Technique Who Had His Own Concert Which was similar to snoops performance last night i can imagine cause i didnt go.
BUT ONE THING I GOT ANNOYED ABOUT! CRITICISING HIS PERFORMANCE? ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS?!!! He Was The Best Act Last Night And Much Better Than Last Years Performances!
Maltese People Are Crazy About Commercial Music, Finally MTV Got One That Isn't So Commercial And Is Considered To Be One Of The Greatest Rappers Internationally. I Agree he is a savage and a very aggressive person with a huge ego, but still, you cannot CANNOT diss the man for his performance because it was just Awesome., and all you need to do is ask last nights crowd. During His single 'SWEAT' The crowd was soo hyped, best moment of the evening by far!

@Joe Fenech : andek zball. Rap = Rhyme & Poetry. "verbal diarrhoea" is what comes out of your mouth unfortunately. "basic music cut and pastes" like I said to Mr C Busuttil, try to do it yourself, I'm sure your really talented by the way you speak :)
@Carmelo Portelli : "LOL "Diss" hehehe you think you are Snoop now?" I had to save the best for the last !! Dear Carmelo, "Diss" is a shortened version of "disrespect" JUST LIKE LOL IS A SHORTENED VERSION OF LAUGH OUT LOUD :)
So ironic right ?
Great show Snoop ! Nice of you to mention your old mates like Tupac Shakur & Nate Dogg. Hope they rest in peace.
And before anybody tries to assume what my music tastes are, Hip Hop & Rap are not my first choice. I'm into the clubbing scene !

I have followed the gist of this story and can only smile wryly at various points:
1. being a superstar does not give you a right to be rude - TRUE superstars who withstood the test of time, which the gentleman above will most probably fail (if not already failed), hardly spoke like that
2. being rude is usually proof of the inability to speak decently and being able to formulate a level argument = shallow personality
3. reading some blogs - some commentators show the lack of basic communication prowess and respect of this superstar - a bleak future indeed
4. a mass withdrawal of journalists would have been more appropriate - what a waste of resrources
5. let's give our younger generations something healthier to consume - benefits to the economy are far outweighed by negative messages
6. if he really meant the 'live in peace' message he should have practised it himself - inconsistent!!!

People do not step into a territory of which surrounding you do not understand! It's all about being real and true to oneself without being a puppet of the media....alot of other artists care too much on how they are gonna be nice when they do not feel like, on how they are gonna say morally accepted stuff when they do not feel that way...and even people who are not artists, everyone just wanna appear like a saint in front of the press and hides the reality of the situation....yes snoop IS a superstar, because there is a very high probability that not even one of these 108 readers where born in the ghetto and made it to his status by being REAL and doing what they REALLY LOVE...so please shut the bollocks up....(cuz if use another word you would probabbly be like uuuuu look how ppl who like L-Isnoop dog(g) say...)

Actually thsi man is popular precisely a) because of the media b) because he is American c) because English is, at least at the moment, the world language in business and communications. From the media's point of view criminality is an added attraction especially to middle-class teenagers at a difficult naive stage.
With many American cities becoming more Spanish-speaking, with countries like China now having more gleaming skyscrapers, the longest bridges, the fastest trains, the newest airports, motorways, the 5 largest banks in the world and finacially giving the US life-support and expected to have three times as many Internet users as the US in the next 3 years the days of American "Big Names" and "Superstars" activating the "fan hormones" of teenagers in places such as Malta are drawing to a close. There is a sequence Production, Wealth, Media, Marketing, captured Punters in the fabrication of "Superstars" and the Marketeers certainly know how to activate teenage hormones

Hey man! I would have said exactly the same if, after having beed delayed by a day due to flight troubles some journalist with no tact whatsoever, asked me that.
They should really sit in front of their TV and listen to how a proper journalist would ask this question...such as:
Hello Mr Snoop Dog I would like to welcome you to my country. We are honoured that you chose to perform on this island. We have been anticipating yout arrival for 4 hours and almost gave up on it. What did actually happen that delayed you?
I can immagine Pierce Morgan saying those exact words.

If I were one of the journalists present, i would have walked out of the suite in solidarity with my Times colleague, and left Snoop Dogg the "sniff'" the air of his own rudeness.

"This time, however, it was not his apparent need for rest that was behind it: his band had missed a connecting flight after an emergency landing, a source said."
as if he has to stay giving us an explanation, he performed well and was the only 1 to give a proper decent message after his performance... whoever hates on him is just jealous!!
Ms K Bugeja
Jul 1st 2011, 08:47
Imagine to be given the opportunity to interview someone important ... would you leave Mr Ian B? Instead of being rude, he should have phoned to cancel, or is that too hard for the doog to do? Thought he was competent enough. What he did was rude, plus abusing his power.
Would you like to have a meeting with your boss and end up staying there for 4 hours? (you might lose your job if you're not there when he's there)
Respect is for everyone be you tall, short, dark skinned, light skinned, poor, rich or a mental patient!!! Having money does not give you the right to be disrespectful!!!!

Mr Chris Vidal
Jul 1st 2011, 01:17
these so called or self-proclaimed superstars and celebrities are actually not even worth of being given any attention. Who is making them look as special? the fans that are ready to pay for their shows and the media giving them all the importance and reporting all the crap that comes out of their mouths. They simply want to impress and so since they do not know any better they talk crap...for attention as they know that the media will report this. The pity is that they are paid well for the crap they present much more than others that really do important work for humanity...and why is this...because people are ready to pay for them if not then they will be like anyone on the street.
Mr Joseph Calleja
Jul 1st 2011, 01:03

I have been a staunch Iron Maiden fan for the past 20 years. When they came to Malta in 1998, I was lucky enough to be at the golf club when Nicko Mc Brain and Dave Murray came for a round of golf. Not only were they really friendly with everyone, they posed for pictures, bought us drinks and had a few lengthy chats with everyone in the bar. On the night of the show, I could see all the members of the band watch the supporting band with gusto, giving each other nods of approval and having a brief chat with the members of the supporting band before they came on stage to bring the place down in true maiden fashion.
Very similar to snoop doog eh!

To Yanov Cutajar: re "You wait, you need them, they don't need you." - You are wrong. It is the media which makes or breaks a superstar. Ok it may not be the local media to do so, but if such arrogance is exhibited elsewhere, he would not be spared the might of the pen. he is a 'superstar' because the media made him so!
Yanov Cutajar
Jun 30th 2011, 23:16
Ok, he may have been rude and disgusting to some, but I can't help but say this. He's pretty much doing the reporters a favour by giving them a story and questions each, yet this reporter had to ask him such a negative question. What'd you expect him to do? Apologise for not being there on time to make you a favour? They should be grateful that he even showed up eventually. This is pretty much expected from all famous people, not just Snoop Dogg. You wait, you need them, they don't need you.
Mr John M Grima

Do them a favour....be grateful!!??????? Such superstars are what they are now because the media made them popular!!! superstars need such interviews aswell!! He is not a going to solve the world's problems and wars, so his interview was not much of an importance either...he hasn't got anything interesting to say either apart from using the F word and calling opeople nigger!!!!

Yanov Cutajar

@ John Grima
Enlighten me, what do I have to learn? What does Australia have to do with my point? Australia, Japan, UK... What, is a country going to change this person's attitude and the fact that he's famous for his music and gangster attitude? (Not that I like his music or approve of his attitude, I just find it amusing.) Since you want to play the country game, do his fans from down under agree with what you have to say? Also, check out this article. Seems like Snoop Dogg is quite a nice guy if you let him, even though the Government kicked him out, he's not bad-mouthing you or dissapointing his fans.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/confidential/rap-star-snoop-dogg-thanks-australian-fans-for-supporting-him/story-e6frf96o-1226039747539
@ J lanzon
Cheers.
@Jesse Galea
I don't think people like Snoop Dogg just up and become superstars through media and newspapers alone, they pretty much do it through music and movies. Maybe to you his words mean nothing, but to newspapers his words mean money, since people buy the news to read what he's got to say, whether it be rude or not. So yes, he is pretty much doing them a favour, Jesse and yes, they should be grateful.

Simmer down people, and "RECOGNIZE" He's right after all. He's super famous and has enough people "hounding" him all the time. He doesn't have to answer any questions for anyone if he doesn't want to. His privacy should be respected just as much as mine and yours. Besides, the reporters are probably just gonna ask a bunch of stupid questions that he's already been asked 100's of times. Leave him alone.

In fairness to Snoop Dogg, real journalists take that kind of thing in their stride and leave their own petty quibbles aside in the pursuit of a story.
Still, he played into your hands - I imagine that went exactly as you planned it - so good for you I guess.
Would be interested to see the rest of the interview. I realise you edited it to serve your particular agenda by showing only that one moment, but it might be interesting to hear the rest of it? Even if just for your own sake, to make this look less like an incomptent and transparent character assassination piece.
By the time this is over, The Times may well have singlehandedly motivated the organisers of this festival to go elsewhere next year, haha.

Jun 30th 2011, 20:22
It is such a shame to name our reporters 'disrespectful' by the way these are Maltese and we should be proud of our reporters. If he is a gangsta therefore he is not in the proper ambient, if he wants to keep his image first he has to learn how to respect the people around him (if he knows how)
