The case alleged happened yesterday evening at Marsa police station.

Any person or persons that chooses to attack or harm a policeman is insane, but not in the sense that the lawyer is trying to portray this man. If this individual does not know right from wrong, then he should still be locked up at Mt Carmel Hospital for treatment. If he is insane he should not be allowed to be out on the streets. Who let him out in the first place? Because if he is really insane, then the people that let him out of Mt Carmel Hospital are to blame. How much money these three psychiatrists going to cost the TAX PAYER? Can the policeman sue for damages?

I wholeheartedly agree with you.......this man was supposedly on leave from Mt Carmel Hospital and he attacks a policeman.Who is granting these type of patients leave from the Mt Carmel ?
I suggest that a proper investigation should be made with regards to such incidents.Should this irresponsible action be punished ?

Hm... now which case does this remind me of? Oh yes...
Magistrate Anthony Vella was reported to have jailed a 26-year old woman for an entire two years.
The story goes that she had moved back to her father's house after experiencing marital problems.
One afternoon her family calls the police fearing that she had suffered an OVERDOSE.
The accused attacked her sister and lashed out at the police when they arrived.
The police did their job - and then came the court day.
"Magistrate Anthony Vella jailed her for two years after taking into consideration her early admission." (linked below)
The critical times reader has to wonder if an individual drunken to the point for being mistaken for a drug overdose case by her own family can honestly be considered perfectly sane and in control of her actions, and therefore to be held fully accountable.
This is a woman who was probably in need of 'help', not a jail term. However here I am today, lamenting the fate of a stranger caught within a vicious trap. Does nobody else pity her?
