Former Economic Affairs Minister Josef Bonnici has been appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, taking over from Michael C Bonello.

Bonnici was Economic Affairs Minister (1995-1996, 1998-2003) and has just stepped down from his post on the European Court of Auditors. 

He specialised in Monetary Economics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics in Canada and has published books and several articles in professional Economics journals. He has also lectured at Deakin University in Australia, and Simon Fraser University in Canada.
