HSBC completes €10m investment in major systems upgrade

HSBC Bank Malta plc has just completed a multimillion euro project to update its main systems infrastructure.

The upgrade brings world class technology and improved functionality and performance for the benefit of both customers and staff.

The project, which cost €10 million, was started over 18 months ago and was completed last week thanks to the input of over 280 members of staff in Malta and from around the HSBC Group, the bank said.

The project, known as ‘One HSBC’, has developed systems and processes to make it easier for HSBC’s customers to do business with the bank as well as to help members of staff to focus their activity and resources towards serving customers more effectively.

Speaking about this investment, HSBC Malta chief executive officer and director Alan Richards said: “One HSBC will help transform the way our customers do business with HSBC. The group’s strategy is to introduce simpler and more flexible systems and processes that make it easier for customers to bank with HSBC.”

The customer benefits of One HSBC are varied.

They include the enhancement of customer experience through improved system functionality, new products, and increased cost savings by standardising systems, products and processes in line with HSBC Group strategy.

Mr Richards said that, as part of the project, various legacy systems were replaced or upgraded, including core banking systems such as the customer relationship management system.

In addition, major improvements were implemented in HSBC’s internet banking and phone banking.

New features were introduced on the bank’s statements system as well as in trade services and HSBC payment services.
