Carrasco Hotel and Casino in Montevideo is being restored. The complex will be managed by French company Sofitel as from next month at the end of the works. Restoration work is expected to cost around $60 million.

Carrasco is described as one of the upscale neighbourhoods in Montevideo’s suburbs where north Americans would feel most familiar with the wide open single family homes with front and back (and side) yards.

The real estate tends to be among the most expensive and it’s pretty much impossible to live in Carrasco without a car, or a lot of patience for public transportation because it’s fairly removed from most of what the city of Montevideo has to offer if you are on foot.

As one traverses the coastal roadway out towards the airport, the Hotel Carrasco Casino is pretty hard to miss. It anchors an area with beautiful old surrounding Tudor homes, which unfortunately, a few enterprising property developers have had the temerity to tear down because of the hotel casino refurbishment.
