This morning's trading session of the Malta Stock Exchange was characterised by high trading activity in Malta International Airport plc shares as well as declines in other equity on low volumes. Almost 65,000 MIA shares traded today with the price holding on to the €1.71 level. The airport operator is expected to update its 2011 passenger forecast in the coming weeks. During the first five months of 2011, MIA reported a 15.3% increase in passenger movements.

Bank of Valletta plc saw its share price ease 0.7% lower to the €2.681 level across nine trades totalling just over 8,000 shares. Meanwhile HSBC Bank Malta plc traded unchanged at the €2.90 level on volumes of 4,687 shares.

The share prices of FIMBank plc and GlobalCapital plc closed at fresh 2011 lows. FIMBank's equity slipped back to its multi-year low of US$0.77 level across 7,589 shares while GlobalCapital slumped 50% to an all-time low of €0.50 on very low volumes of 180 shares. Moreover, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc dropped 1.75% to close at its 2011 low of €1.68 also on low volumes of only 200 shares.

Overall, the MSE Share Index returned to negative territory with a 0.7% drop to 3,322.712 points. Meanwhile the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index moved 0.1% higher to 978.118 points as the benchmark Eurozone yields continued to decline to the 2.87% level.
