A potential investor in Selmun Palace Hotel had a meeting with Finance Minister Tonio Fenech on Friday but the outcome is not yet known, GWU Secretary-General Tony Zarb said this morning.

Speaking on the stairs leading up to the Auberge de Castille at the end of the second demonstration by 58 hotel workers who have been handed dismissal notices, Mr Zarb said this investor was willing to plough €52 million in the hotel and retain the workers.

Mr Zarb called on the government to seriously consider such offers. He also insisted that the prime minister should be involved in this issue, since he had been the one who had promised the hotel workers job security.

Earlier, the workers held a peaceful but noisy demonstration from the GWU headquarters to Castille, calling for work and insisting that the government should honour its promises.

Some of the workers were accompanied by their wives and children.

Also present were Opposition representative Gavin Gulia and John Bencini, president of the FORUM group of trade unions.
