Hecking: Nurnberg coach Dieter Hecking has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him with the Bundesliga club until June 2014. Hecking, whose existing deal was due to expire in June 2012, took over at the helm in December 2009 and kept the Bavarians in the Bundesliga via the play-offs that term before leading the club to a sixth-place finish last season.
Zapata: Udinese defender Cristian Zapata looks heading to the Primera Liga next season and his destination is likely to be Villarreal. Colombia centre-half Zapata was first mentioned with a move to Liverpool in the Premier League this summer but Spanish newspaper Marca yesterday reported that Udinese have now reached an agreement with Villarreal.
Flamengo: Flamengo struck four times in the final 24 minutes as they came from behind to seal an emphatic win over Atletico Mineiro in the Campeonato. Flamengo trailed to Dudu Cearense’s goal but Ronaldinho equalised and Thiago Neves gave them the lead before Deivid added two late goals to embellish the margin of victory.
Swansea: Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins will meet with Ipswich this week after the latter reported his club for alleged non-payment of invoices. Jenkins said he was unaware of any dispute with Ipswich and has vowed to discuss the matter with their chief executive Simon Clegg after he asked the Premier League to impose a transfer embargo on the top-flight newcomers in relation to payments Ipswich allege are due following Tamas Priskin’s recent loan spell.
Nego: Right-back Loic Nego is close to signing for Roma this summer. He is available on a free transfer after impressing in Ligue 2 with Nantes last season. He was also of interest to the likes of Benfica, Cesena and Saint-Etienne. Nego could become the first signing for Roma since coach Luis Enrique took over.
Friendly: Colombia enjoyed a comfortable win over a lacklustre Senegal side in their final game before departing for the Copa America. Abel Aguilar seized on an error by visiting keeper Khadim N’Diaye to slot in a 17th-minute opener and Jackson Martinez headed in Camilo Zuniga’s cross to double the lead before half-time.
