Fr Geoffrey Attard writes:

It is with sadness that I received news from my schoolmate and friend, Chris Galea, informing me that Fra’ Frederick Crichton-Stuart had passed away.

Born on September 6, 1940, Fredrik Crichton-Stuart was educated at Ampleforth College. A qualified Chartered Accountant, throughout his life he involved himself in many works of charity and public benefit for many years. He was also a Knight of Justice of the Order of Malta.

Having been a member of the Order since 1962, Delegate of Scotland and the Northern Marches, and first Chancellor of the restored Grand Priory of England, he was installed as the second Grand Prior of England during the Reformation in 2008, succeeding Fra’ Matthew Festing, who had been elected Prince and Grand Master of the Order to succeed Fra’ Andrew Bertie, a cousin of Fra’ Fredrik.

He died at his Edinburgh home on June 14. Though he suffered a long illness, hewas devoted to his duties untilthe end.

The other esteemed member of the Order in Scotland who also passed away lately was Henry Lorimer, who died aged 71 on May 5 in a tragic accident.

Mr Lorimer was a scion of a richly creative Scottish family who devoted much of his life to helping those less fortunate than himself.

A deeply religious man, I will always remember him for his keen sense of humour. He was a leading figure in the Knights of Malta.

After a career in the wine and spirits trade, Mr Lorimer spent the latter years of his life turning his vast business expertise to good use working at the highest level in the charitable field.

May they rest in peace.
