Telecoms group Melita has selected world-leading television Video on-demand aggregator On Demand Group to launch the first video on-demand services on Melita’s network later this summer.
Melita’s VOD launch will mark the extension of ODG’s reach to 18 platforms in 12 countries handling over one billion video on-demand transactions per year in nine languages.
Telecommunications giants like Virgin Media in the UK and Kabel Deustchland in Germany are among ODG’s VOD customers.
The video on-demand service will be available nationwide to all Melita subscribers having Melita’s interactive Netbox HD. The service will include a library of popular TV series, top comedy, drama, documentaries, kids programming, movies and music videos for subscribers to choose from whenever they want.
Viewers will also have full control to pause, rewind, fast-forward or watch their favourite show as many times as they please, just like a DVD.
“TV viewing trends have changed drastically and will continue to change,” Melita chief operating officer Ludolf Rasterhoff explained.
ODG chief executive officer Tony Kelly said the group had, over the past two years, formed close partnerships with many of Europe’s leading cable and IPTV service providers.
