Young composers are being invited to apply to take part in the next Young Composers’ Concert.

Launched by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert features works for orchestra written by up and coming composers, chosen after a public pan-European call for new orchestral compositions.

Young composers, who must be 40 years of age or younger on December 31 2011, are asked to submit one orchestral work of 20 minutes maximum duration.

Works must be new and must never have been performed. The challenge being put to composers this year is to limit their orchestration to a small orchestra of between 15 to 25 players, using instruments within the normal structure of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Interested applicants should refer to www.maltaorchestra.com for further information, rules and regulations.

The chosen works will be performed by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in a special concert during the 2011/2012 season.

Works, accompanied by a non-refundable registration fee of €20, must be submitted to the orchestra premises, 88 Old Mint Street, Valletta, by December 2 at noon.
