One student from The Dance Workshop will participate in an international dance competition and another will attend a prestigious dance course at the end of July.

Keith Micallef will be travelling to Manchester to participate in Cecchetti International Dance Competition.

This biannual classical ballet competition, held on a different continent each time, is a showcase for future dance stars, who are judged by an international dance jury.

Micallef, who will be accompanied by Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud, will experience a week of dance classes and rehearsals. A three-day competition will be held at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester.

Micallef will be presenting Blue Bird Variation from Sleeping Beauty (coached by Lungaro-Mifsud) as well as a short contemporary choreography by Francesca Abela Tranter.

He is the first Maltese dancer to have auditioned successfully for this competition.

During the same week, Nicola Micallef, Keith’s sister, will be off to summer school at The Royal Ballet School in the UK.

She competed with thousands of dance enthusiasts for a coveted place on the course.

She will spend the week surrounded by talented dance students while being coached by top teachers.

Nicola Micallef is the second student from The Dance Workshop to have been chosen to attend such a prestigious course.
