Valletta's once notorious Strada Stretta came to life this evening taking many Maltese and tourists to yesteryear when British servicemen stationed here frequented The Gut, as they called the place, for wine, women and song.

The event, along the stretch between Old Theatre and Archbishop streets, was organised by Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit with backing by Farsons and was based mainly on readings from the book Strada Stretta: It-Triq Li Darba Xeghlet il-Belt by George Cini.

Entertainment was provided by 85-year-old pianist Frank Camilleri Il-Bibi, who used to play in Strait Street and the Kabuni Guns Burlesque troupe.

The street was decorated with freshly washed clothes hanging on lines in the street.
