It is being contended that the Prime Minister and some PN MPs are currently facing a dilemma in terms of their personal voting option for divorce legislation because whatever their final decision may be they will be criticised.

In my opinion there is no big issue here. Because the majority opted for divorce it does not mean that divorce is the best solution for marital problems.

In fact it was unanimously established in the course of the campaign that divorce should not be a desirable solution. Although divorce will soon be legalised no responsible divorce legislation can ever substitute the child’s happiness and stability, which from the outset is the right of the child, within the original family of a wife and husband lovingly committed to each other or for that matter the trauma experienced by most divorcing couples.

So whoever is against divorce – whether a citizen or whether an MP or PM – is in favour of what is advantageous to society.

Therefore the focus should now be shifted completely to the best family policy with participation from all entities to ensure the indispensable synergy essential – incorporating synergy among state and Chruch – for the most effective outcome in the interest of a society comprised of whole persons.
