A coordinated initiative by Red Cross - Red Crescent

The article Wounded Rebels Defiant As They Head For Tunisian Hospital (June 10) was corrected in Thursday’s paper. The error indicated that the Malta Red Cross has been active in helping in the transfer of wounded rebels and delivering aid to the coastal city to the south of Malta. We would like to clarify the following:

The Malta Red Cross provides humanitarian assistance for all individuals, according to the fundamental principles of neutrality and impartiality.

The Malta Red Cross Society was never active in Misurata, or in any other city of the Libyan sovereign state, for that matter, helping with the transfer of wounded individuals or any other direct medical care.

All assistance provided in Libya forms part of a coordinated Red Cross Red-Crescent Movement initiative.
