Selmun workers and their families will on Monday be meeting at the General Workers' Union headquarters and walk to Castille to show their disapproval at way the government was handling their issue, GWU general secretary said today.
Closing the biennial conference of the union's pensioners' section, Mr Zarb accused the government of being insensitive and heartless with these workers.
He said since GWU knew there were companies which were interested in taking on the Selmun Palace workers and the union yesterday had a 1.5 hour meeting with one of these companies.
This company has only been in Malta for five weeks and had not yet had talks with high-ranking officials.
Mr Zarb reiterated his appeal to the government to put Air Malta workers' mind at rest and guarantee those who would be dismissed an alternative job.
He said that next Thursday, a meeting between the GWU, the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions and Forum, headed by Prof. Edward Zammit was to be held to discuss how unions would work together and collaborate in future.
In a report, pensioners listed as their main concerns the ever increasing costs of basic needs, criminal acts against the elderly, pills they were entitled to running out of stock, long waiting lists for operations and anomalies in pensions.
