NBA star Dirk Nowitzki says he is considering playing for the German national basketball team as it tries to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Nowitzki, who turned 33 on Sunday, told the US media that he would make an announcement either way in a couple of weeks.

Earlier this month, Nowitzki led the Dallas Mavericks to their first championship by beating LeBron James’ Miami Heat in six games in the NBA finals.

Nowitzki also considers his stint with the German team at the 2008 Beijing Games to be one of the highlights of his career. He won a bronze medal with Germany at the 2002 World Championships.

Germany must finish among the top six teams of the 24 at the EuroBasket tournament to be eligible to qualify for the Olympics.
