The European Judo Cadet Championships are being held at the Cottonera Sports Complex between tomorrow and Sunday.
After the successful hosting of the 2007 EC Cadets in Malta, over 600 athletes and delegates from 40 different countries are expected to attend this year’s event.
The European Championships for cadets is one of the largest and most important competitions on the European Judo Union (EJU) calendar as it helps young athletes become international competitors at a very delicate age.
A lot of talented judokas are expected to compete. These championships ensure the harmonious growth of European judo, thanks to the technical preparation which each federation provides to the athlete and thus the discipline which they learn.
“It is a great pleasure and honour that Malta is hosting these championships for the second time after 2007,” Envic Galea, the president of the Malta Judo Federation and secretary of the EJU, said in a statement.
“We will do our utmost to ensure that our foreign guests feel at home during their stay in Malta.
“The European Judo Union entrusted us with the organisation of this prestigious competition and for this I thank the president of the EJU, Sergey Soloveychik.”
The Euro cadet championships get underway tomorrow when the opening ceremony is held at the Cottonera Sports Complex, starting at 4 p.m.
