Young father dies as car falls off bypass
Sinclair Sammut.
Sinclair Sammut, the father of a four-year-old boy, died tragically on his way home from work when his car fell off the Sta Venera bypass onto a lane near Valley Road, Msida.
The incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday, as Mr Sammut, 25, was driving his Toyota Fun Cargo towards Sta Venera. The car hit a barrier, plunged onto the lower level and overturned. He died on impact.
His cousin Clifton Galea said Mr Sammut was a “family man”, very active and energetic who worked hard in his family’s interests. He spent his free time with his mother, wife and beloved son.
His cousin-in-law Adriana Galea added: “Sinclair was like a brother for me. He was funny and jovial, but at the same time, very responsible. He juggled various jobs, and always put his family before everything.”
Teams from the Civil Protection Department, the police and Mater Dei Hospital were called on site. Magistrate Edwina Grima is holding an inquiry.
Four years ago, another person lost her life in the same area. In November of 2007, a young nursing student from Żebbuġ died when she lost control of her car as she was driving through Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street and plunged two storeys to a slip road off Valley Road.
Alexia Maria Baldacchino, who had just turned 21, lost control of her red Citroen AX as she was driving towards Marsa.
She is believed to have hit the crash barrier and then a tree before her car plunged two storeys to the slip road below.
Ms Baldacchino was certified dead by medical personnel who arrived in an ambulance shortly after the accident.

Min ha jerfa r-responsabilta talli hemmhekk m'hemmx u ma sarx ilqugh bizzejjed. Id-demm ta dawn l-innocenti huwa fuq min hu responsabli mit-toroq, u mis-sigurta tat-toroq taghna....Quddiem Alla irid jerfa' r-responsabilta jekk mhux kapaci jkun responsabli f'hajtu. Imissna nisthu...kemm iridu jmutu iktar nies biex forsi jsir xi haga.
Insellem lil huna Sinclair, u nitlob ghal ruhu u ghal familja tieghu.
