An Ivorian was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to the attempted rape of his former girlfriend, 25, in the apartment they still share.

Stephen Dartey, 31, of Marsacala, also denied violent indecent assault, holding her against her will and threatening her on Monday evening. The couple continued to live together after they split up, police sources said, adding that it was during an argument that the alleged crimes took place.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi remanded him in custody.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
