Reuben Buttigieg has been elected president of the Malta Institute of Management. Mr Buttigieg has formed part of the MIM council since 2003 and has led the institute’s education division for the last five years.

Mr Buttigieg has an MBA from the University of Warwick and is a fellow member of the Association of the Chartered Certified Accountants.

He is also managing director of Erremme Business Advisors.

The other officers of the new MIM council are: Edward Firman, vice president; Dunstan Magro, honorary secretary; Alfred Mifsud, honorary treasurer; and members Marika Huber, Lawrence Mizzi, Melvin Caruana and Hector Spiteri.

Melvin Caruana will be succeeding Mr Buttigieg as chairman of the education division of MIM. Mr Caruana is executive chairman of Smart Insurance Brokers Limited.

Ms Huber and Mr Mizzi have been appointed directors of the Education Division.

Mr Buttigieg said he considers today’s situation as very challenging for the MIM as professionals are facing new difficulties but also new opportunities.

He said he would like the new MIM council to build on what previous councils have succeeded in creating and developing along the years.

Another desire is to see the MIM collaborating more with various organisations to ensure a better co-ordination of activities in the development of human capital for sustainable economic growth.

Founded in 1964, the Malta Institute of Management is a non-political, non-negotiating and non-profit making professional body for persons in Malta concerned with and involved in management.

The institute runs various courses, educational programmes and conferences.
