Ireland’s trade surplus narrowed by a third in April to €2.616 billion as imports rose and exports fell, official data showed yesterday.

Exports dropped to €7.530 billion from €7.718 billion in March and imports rose to €4.914 billion from €3.721 billion, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said in a statement.

The data released by the CSO gave final figures for March and first estimates for April.

Ireland is fighting for growth to help it beat a crippling debt crisis.
