Jason John Aquilina was the overall winner of the Horace Micallef Enterprises Ltd Trap Selection shoot organised over the weekend by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation at its ranges in Bidnija.

The fine weather during the two days of competition attracted a very good number of trap shooters to the ranges.

The Trap shoot was held on 125 clays with the top six qualifying for the barrage finals where another round of 25 clays lay in waiting for the contestants.

The healthy participation resulted in high standard scores that also included two superb straights of 25, both hit by Noel Attard who was third in the final classification.

Aquilina and Brian Galea had finished on the same score of 133 at the end of the barrage.

Aquilina had qualified with a best score of 116, followed by Attard on 115, but lost form in the final where he only managed 17 to Galea’s 20.

Luckily for him, Aquilina regained composure in the shoot-off and went on to win the competition after the third clay in the decider.

Attard also managed a 17 in the barrage to finish one clay behind the leading duo and just ahead of fourth-placed George Cassar (131).

Meanwhile, the Malta Shooting Sport Federation announced it will be hosting the Malta International Trap Grand Prix on July 16 and 17 at Bidnija.

The second Malta International Double Trap Grand Prix, with the participation of the world’s best shooters in the category, will be held a week later, on July 24.
