An afternoon of fun games and competitions ensured a fitting finale to the 2010/11 winter season at the Żażu Football School (ZFS) recently.
Around 100 players from the school were present at the San Ġwann FC ground to take part in this annual end-of-season activity – the ZFS penalty shoot-out.
The prizes for the winners in all age-groups (five to 13 years) included Ferencvaros and Sheffield United shirts, signed by Malta goalkeeper Justin Haber and striker Daniel Bogdanovic, and a signed Malta U-21 shirt.
Hand watches, supplied by Gaba Gioielli, were presented to the best penalty finishers in the parents’ competition.
Established by current Malta U-21 coach Ray Farrugia in 2004, the ZFS is widely regarded as one of the leading youth football organi-sations on our islands.
“It has been another successful year for us,” Farrugia said in a statement.
“I’m very pleased with the level of attendance and interest shown by the young ones.
“It’s their enthusiasm and willingness to learn that keep us going. The children are at the heart of our drive to offer the best and most enjoyable training.
“As much as we want them to improve their skills, we put a lot of emphasis on the fun factor because if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you’ll never improve. I believe our objectives are being achieved as the majority of the players have shown significant improvement.
“Obviously, without the support of the parents and the sponsors, it would almost be impossible for us to run the school. I take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed towards this success this season, especially our coaches.”
The attention of ZFS now turns to the summer school that kicks off on July 4. Training sessions will be held from Tuesday to Friday for an eight-week period.
The 2011/12 winter season starts on October 1.
The ZFS is supported by Peugeot, Assikura Insurance, TeamSport, Tower Supermarket, Medairco and Munchies Restaurant.
