Equinox Trio will be performing Maltese and Armenian trios during the International Festival of the Arts at the new site of the Action Base Performance Studio in Buskett, tomorrow at 9 p.m.

The programme will open with Aram Khachaturian’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano. This trio hails from his student years, written when he was enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory.

Like several of Véronique Vella’s compositions, Fjuri pays homage to elements associated with the Maltese soundscape. The piece is partly influenced by the Maltese nursery rhyme, Ongi-O Kavallier.

Edward Manukyan’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano was completed in June, 2007, although the first movement had been written in December 2006 and was premiered on January 6, 2007.

Pan the Goat-God by Ruben Zahra will bring the evening to an end. Set in four movements, the music for this cycle is driven by hard rhythmic patterns which support complex motives and intricate melodic lines.

Equinox Trio features pianist Tricia Dawn Williams, clarinettist Lino Pirotta and violinist Tatjana Chircop.

Tickets cost €12 and can be obtained from the St James Cavalier booking office by calling 2122 3200 or online at www.sjcav.org.
