A central strip forming part of the new Valletta bus terminus project was partially demolished within days because of traffic management amendments.

Transport Malta customer care manager Victor Battistino said the traffic management system around the area encompassing the new bus terminal was reviewed in order to ensure a smoother traffic flow.

The process involved Nelson Street, the old bus terminus and the area around the Biskuttin, especially in the junction between King Edward Road and Nelson Street.

Most of the centre strip, close to the entrance to the MCP car park and which had been finished off with hard stone, was removed and will be replaced with asphalt.

“The remodelling of the area mentioned, including the alteration of the central strip, was deemed essential in light of the traffic flow of buses from the passenger alighting area on the Biskuttin into Nelson Street,” Mr Battistino explained.

When asked, Mr Battistino said the costs involved in this alteration were “minimal”.
