Reference is made to the parliamentary report entitled Minister Hits At Workers’ Exploitation (June 14) where Dolores Cristina, Minister of Education, Employment and the Family, is reported saying that “Although unemployment in Malta still showed one of the highest rates in Europe, the figures were going down…” This is completely incorrect, as can be verified from the unofficial records of the June 13 sitting.

What the minister said was that “Malta has the fifth lowest unemployment rate among the 27 EU member states. Whereas the average rate of unemployment in Europe is 9.4 per cent in Malta it is 6.2 per cent..” This is confirmed by Eurobarometer. So much to put the record straight.
