A man and a woman this morning pleaded not guilty to money laundering and financing a criminal gang.

Maria Carmela Fenech, 26, of San Gwann was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €500.

Paul Spagnol, 44, also of San Gwann, who was also charged with stealing €500,000 worth of gold jewellery from a house in Sliema, handling stolen property and relapsing, was remanded in custody.

The magistrate sent a recommendation to the prisons director to allow Mr Spagnol to attend his son's First Holy Communion ceremony next Sunday.
