Three new zones reserved for swimmers
Fond Ghadir in Tas-Sliema, Xemxija and St George's Bay in Birzebbuga are three new zones Transport Malta has reserved exclusively for swimmers this summer.
These bring the total number of Swimmers' Zones around the Maltese Islands to 43.
Transport Malta announced this during the launch of the Safety at Sea Campaign, now in its 16th year, which aims at educating boat owners to enjoy their pastime in a responsible way and in full respect of regulations and swimmers.
Speaking to the media, in the presence of Police Assistance Commissioner Josie Brincat at the official launch of the Safety at Sea Campaign onboard the Kyumm, Transport Malta CEO Stanley Portelli said that in line with its strategic objective to promote a safer culture within all modes of Transport, the authority was stepping up its efforts to educate and increase safety awareness among boat users.
"We are encouraged by the positive feedback we receive each year and look forward to further initiatives in promoting the safe enjoyment of the sea by both swimmers and boat users."

"promoting the safe enjoyment of the sea" !!!! are you serious???? year after year in sliema, 5 bricks tied together are placed to hold the bouys afloat, every 20mts i think. why don't transport malta use the previous bricks put the year before? there are 3 sets of 5 bricks every 20 mts now. and next year?

Its nice to hear that the authority does occasionally implement some measures towards the bathers but can they also take care of us boat owners!. The state of the few usable slipways around Malta are in dire need of maintenance and they are clearly not enough in number for during the summer season. Sometimes I had to wait in queue for almost over an hour to use the bahar ic caghaq slipway . After all we pay an annual license so better facilities are expected.

Well done! Some boat owners do need some education.
