Resources Minister George Pullicino has felt compelled to urge residents to take pride in the embellishment of Marsaxlokk after newly laid areas were vandalised with burnt oil a few times over the past 18 months.
The project, which cost €2 million, spans a good part of the Marsaxlokk seafront and the church square.
“Whoever does these things is only harming himself not the government,” Mr Pullicino said.
He commended the council for taking an active interest in the works, so much so it asked for a fountain on the lines of that found in St Anne’s Square, Sliema, money for which came from the Urban Regeneration Fund.
The works should be ready by Saturday evening, when Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi inaugurates the project. It includes a monument to a Maltese fisherman, who can easily call Marsaxlokk his home.
