The 2011 European Junior Tournament at the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club will be played between July 2 and 9 with the participation of over 200 players from across Europe, Asia and Australia.
The competition will have Kettle Chips as its main sponsor.
This is the fourth successive year that VLTC is hosting the Tennis Europe Under-14 tournament.
Details of the competition were given by club president Paul Micallef during a news conference at the VLTC premises earlier this week. Also present on the occasion were David Farrugia Sacco, president of the Malta Tennis Federation, and Carlos Cluett, representative for Kettle Chips.
The tournament will consist of singles events with a main draw of 48 boys and 32 girls. Qualification and consolation events as well as doubles in both categories will also be held.
The Maltese junior players taking part are Mark Schranz, Jeremy Borg, Zach Ciappara, Alexia Cassar, Rebecca McCarthy, Katrina Sammut, Maria Giorgia Farrugia Sacco and Naomi Zammit Ciantar.
Signing-in for the qualifying draw will be on July 1 with the registration for the main draw taking place two days later. The matches in the main draw will commence on July 4 with the finals scheduled for July 9 on the Atlas Insurance Centre Court.
At the launch of the tournament, the organisers thanked sponsors Kettle Chips and Simonds Farsons Cisk for their support.
They also extended their in-vitation to the Maltese sporting public to attend this event and give their backing to the local players.
