The Forum Unions Maltin has expressed its preoccupation about the 58 Selmun Palace employees, who were given notice of dismissal.

Should these workers be dismissed, it said, this would be another slap in the face for workers and their families.

The Forum's members had Air Malta employees from other sectors among their members so it supported the GWU's efforts to protect these workers' jobs.

It was clear that a solution could be found and the Forum appealed to the government to meet these workers' representatives immediately, especially when it seemed there was a great possibility that three British consortia bought the hotel and retained the workers.

It also appealed to the government and Air Malta to carefully consider their decisions and discuss them with the GWU so that an agreement which would safeguard these workers' jobs could perhaps be reached.

Air Malta yesterday denied reports that a UK investor had offered €50 million to purchase Selmun Palace Hotel as a going concern.

It said that its many attempts to sell the hotel as a going concern were not successful.
