Victor Piturca was yesterday named coach of Romania for a third time, the Romanian football federation announced.
Piturca takes over from Razvan Lucescu, who stepped down earlier this month, and signed a four-year deal, with a monthly salary of €35,000 and large possible bonuses should Romania qualify for Euro 2012 or the 2014 World Cup.
The 55-year-old already has a wealth of experience as the coach of Romania, having led the national team from 1998-2000 and 2004-09.
“I’m back for the third time as head coach,” he said.
“I hope we’ll all fight so the national team regains its level of yesteryear and the fans are happy.”
Romania currently sit fourth in Group D of Euro 2012 qualification on eight points, five behind leaders France and only one behind Belarus. Albania, who have a game in hand, sit third also on eight points.
