A man who imported at least 78 capsules of cocaine hidden in his stomach this morning admitted in court to importing the drugs.

Iancuba Balde, a Portuguese, left from Brazil and arrived on an Alitalia flight from Italy on Monday.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech said that the accused is currently in hospital for his own safety and because there might still be capsules in his stomach.

Dr Mark Mifsud Cutajar, legal aid, said that his client had cooperated with the police and would cooperate further in the future.
