The  House of Representatives will start its debate on the introduction of divorce on Monday July 4 and sittings will continue until July 13, the House Business Committee decided today. There will not be a sitting on Sunday but a sitting on Saturday remains a possibility.

The vote on second reading will be held on July 13.

The Divorce Bill will then be considered clause by clause in the Committee for Consideration of Bills which, unusually, will continue to meet through the summer. MPs are being asked to prepare any amendments they wish to move, beforehand.

No date has been fixed for the all important third-reading final vote.

While a number of MPs from both sides of the House have said they will vote against the Bill, the Prime Minister has repeatedly declared that the government will ensure that the vote is approved, in line with the outcome of the May 28 referendum.
