German ministers on Malta stopover

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle was in Malta on a stopover this morning on his way to Benghazi, according to reports that could not be officially confirmed.
He is accompanied by the Minister for Economic Cooperation.
Germany last week said it is opening a liaison office in Benghazi.
The ministers, accompanied by senior German government officials, arrived on an official German Airbus 310 aircraft and transferred to a Transall military transport aircraft in Malta.
They are expected to return to Malta this evening and will meet Foreign Minister Tonio Borg.
Mr Westerwelle said last week that Berlin wants to broaden its ties with members of the Libyan opposition who are seeking to topple Muammar Gaddafi.
Germany on March 17 abstained in a UN Security Council vote for the use of military force to protect civilians in Libya.
Since then, Germany participated in humanitarian missions to Libya.

I like it, there is a lot to learn from Germany!
And I quote: ''Mr. Westerwelle said last week that Berlin wants to broaden its ties with members of the Libyan opposition who are seeking to topple Muammar Gaddafi''.
So, as a European citizen I said: ''If the United Kingdom it is costing 1,000,000 pounds a day what is your country's effort to ''topple Mr. M.Gaddafi''? or is it things look good for the other side and you are showing your flag now. Come on try to join the world community for the good as well as for the bad times.

The UK caused much of the problem in the first place. Remember Tony Blair shaking hands with Gaddafi a few years ago as he was embraced as an friend of the UK? That was the biggest joke and simply showed the selfshness of the UK and it's desire to lay its hands on a good deal for Libyan oil. Well, that's back fired now and it's quite right the UK should be paying back what it planned to take for itself all of those years ago. Gaddafi would have toppled years ago if the British had not been so stobborn to support him.
Germany is doing the right thing in trying to bring peace to a situation it did not create. We should be greatful that there are countries who are prepared to help rebuild nations they did not damage in the first place.

Mr Cassar, remember Dr Gonzi embracing Col Gaddafi only a few weeks before the humanitarian crisis in Libya?
No, I didn't forget.

Unfortunately it was Dom Mintoff who built the strong relationship between Malta and Libya, so please research your facts a little more deeply. It was the PN's push for Malta to join the EU (that PL were totally against) that finally saw Malta become part of a civilised Europe rather than a dirty backward Noth Africa which was the only option without EU membership.

Mr C Cassar anything wrong with what Mintoff did?
Mintoff was first.
Others followed.
