A delegation of 10 people last week represented Junior Chamber International Malta at the annual Junior Chamber European Conference held in Tarragona, Spain.

Some 2,000 JCI members from all over Europe and other continents participated in the conference.

JCI Malta promoted Malta as a potential host country for the event.

The delegation set up a stand in the trade fair with the backdrop of the Cottonera waterfront and the EC Bid logo for 2014, designed by Clayton Mercieca, who is also JCI Malta’s vice-president (training) for 2011.

The logo is a mesh of symbols iconic to Malta. There is the Maltese cross on one side which gradually transforms into a fish, representing the sea, the fishing trade and also the shape of Malta. The third symbol is an abstract figure of the eye of Osiris which is used by Maltese fisherman on their luzzu.

JCI Malta also chose the slogan ‘A knightly experience’ to represent the richness in culture, history, food, tradition and entertainment that Malta would offer should it be chosen as the country to host the conference.

Several freebies were distributed to other delegates, including local lager and a variety of galletti (hard-baked biscuits), promotional books and multimedia.
