Ta’ Mena Estates recently launched its latest wine, Enchor, at Del Borgo in Vittoriosa.

‘Enchor’ is the word inscribed on the oldest sundial in Malta, which dates back to 1546, found in a house in Xewkija.

Joe Spiteri of Ta’ Mena Estates said: “Enchor is a Chardonnay – the product of Gozo’s climate – a constant temperature with little major fluctuations between day and night.”

The wine is aged for four to six months in new French oak barrels and then aged further in stainless steel vats in strictly controlled temperatures.

The wine is then bottled and set for two to three months before being released.

The vines for Enchor are grown on 16 tumoli in the valley at Ramla l-Ħamra.

In 2009, Ta’ Mena Estates produced about 5,000 bottles of Enchor, in 2010 they produced 6,000 and this year they plan to produce between 8,000 and 10,000 bottles.
