Car enthusiasts will be given the chance to buy a piece of royalty when a rare Rolls-Royce limousine goes under the hammer this month.

The 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow long-wheelbase limo was supplied to the personal order of Princess Margaret, and later was also owned by actor Burt Reynolds, and still includes the personal features requested by the royal.

Leather trimmed door cappings; flat side indicators fitted in line with chromed body mouldings; Nuella Black hide interior; and Cardinal Red paintwork with contrasting gold coachlines, were some of the personal touches Princess Margaret asked for.

Perhaps most importantly were the “soft and comfortable” seats that would make the Princess’s journeys more pleasurable. After the World War II, Rolls-Royce became the preferred choice of the Royal family, and the Silver Shadow was supplied to Princess Margaret in 1975. She is not the only high-profile owner of the car. In 1984 American actor Reynolds bought the car and took it to America where he kept it at his ranch in Florida.

An official for Bonhams, the auction house selling the car, said the Silver Shadow is estimated to sell for £20,000 to £22,000 when it goes to auction as part of the Rolls-Royce, Bentley Motor Cars & Automobilia sale at Rockingham Castle, Leicestershire, on June 18.

She added: “This car represents a unique insight into a Rolls-Royce that encapsulated the tastes of both royalty and Hollywood.”

Also included in the sale will be a 1938 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Cabriolet, which was considered one of the most outstanding luxury cars of the 1930s. It is estimated to sell for £160,000 to £180,000.

A total of 710 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Cabriolet were manufactured before the World War II halted production, and only 300 exist worldwide today.
