The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin yesterday hit out at Air Malta’s decision to fire employees at the Selmun Palace Hotel.
“The tourism and services section is sure that the €13 million debt accumulated in the past years was not the workers’ fault and, for this reason, the workers should not pay for past wrong decisions,” the union said.
On Thursday, Air Malta announced it had sacked 58 employees of the airline-owned hotel.
The union said no one should have to lose one’s job. It insisted Air Malta workers should be offered alternative employment with the government “as the government did in the case of workers of other companies where it was the main shareholder, as is this case”.
