A driver and a jockey from the Malta Racing Club, Clint Vassallo and Oliver Briffa, will be competing in another round of races from the Mediterranean Championship which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, today.

This will be the third leg of the 2011 championship for trotters and the fifth one for flat racing.

Vassallo, currently 11th in the overall standings of the MRC, goes into the trotting race on the back of his victory in the Sette Giugno Cup with Think Yatzee. On the same day, Briffa placed second in the prestigious Mediterranean Derby when riding Just the Best.

In March, the Malta Racing Club hosted two rounds of the Mediterranean Championship and on that occasion the local participants were jockey Eric Zammit and driver Julian Farrugia.

Among the countries participating at this year’s championship are France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Tunisia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Marsa racetrack will be hosting a special programme of racing tomorrow, featuring no fewer than five finals from the 10 events on the card.

All finals are from the championships for French trotters.

The most-awaited race will be from the Premier Class which starts at 5.30 p.m. The horses in this final are: Master Perrine, Malin Roro, Mark de Chamant, Le Coup de Foudre, Lovely Mab, Marathon Villers, Kakisis, Knock de Manche and Joker de Choisel.
