Veteran shock-rocker Alice Cooper has been honoured for his years of service to the music world at the Kerrang! Awards.

The singer – famed for hits such as School’s Out and Poison, as well as his mock on-stage executions – won the Icon award from the music magazine.

Another rock stalwart, Ozzy Osbourne, landed an honorary prize at the bash in London, collecting the Legend award.

Scottish trio Biffy Clyro – who can lay claim to a number one single after they provided Matt Cardle with his hit When We Collide – were named best classic songwriters.

Actor Jared Leto’s band 30 Seconds To Mars were the big winners with two prizes – best international band and best single for their track Hurricane.

The annual event – fully known as The Kerrang! Awards 2011 Fuelled By Relentless Energy Drink – coincided with the magazine’s 30th anniversary.

Ossy Osbourne – who first found fame with Black Sabbath before establishing a solo career and a stint as a reality TV star in MTV’s The Osbournes, as well as notoriety for his hell-raising – had his award collected by his son Jack.

US star Mr Cooper was given his award for his four decades in the spotlight as well as pioneering theatrical shows which inspired acts such Kiss and Marilyn Manson.

Other long serving acts to be honoured at the bash included Def Leppard picking up the Inspiration award, and Korn who entered the Hall of Fame.

My Chemical Romance had been nominated for five awards but collected just one, best video for the single Na Na Na.

Best album went to Bring Me The Horizon for their release There Is A Hell... while You Me At Six were named Best British Band.
