The government said this evening that although Bisazza Street was to be totally pedestiranised, the decision was taken after the agreement with Arriva had been signed.
So until the necessary arrangements were made, the new Arriva buses would be able to temporarily use the street for a very limited period.
According to the agreement, there had to be payment for any adjustments made.
The government insisted that the decision which had been taken would be implemented.
Earlier today Arriva Malta managing director Keith Bastow said that eight different routes will pass through Bisazza Street.
The company, he said, had finalised an intelligent information system which programmed buses to bus stops feeding them information of where they were and how long they would be to arrive at that particular spot.
The system was very intricate and changing the route and not passing through Bisassa Street would throw this passenger information out of the window.
