I would like to congratulate Dom Hugh Gilbert osb, abbot of Pluscarden abbey in Elgin, Scotland who has just been nominated as the next Bishop of Aberdeen.

During the four years I spent in Scotland I went various times on retreat to Pluscarden where I used to meet Dom Gilbert regularly.

I also have a copy of his book, Unfolding The Mystery: Monastic Conferences On The Liturgical Year, Gracewing 2007, signed by him which I will cherish in a special manner.

Abbot Gilbert is a convert from Anglicanism; he was born in England in 1952 and accepted into the Catholic Church on Christmas night 1970. He succeeds Mgr Peter Moran as Bishop of Aberdeen.
