The driver of a Fiat Punto was lucky to have been away from his car yesterday afternoon when a trailer veered out of control and sandwiched it against a wall.

The Punto could well have been made out of cardboard as the crushing weight of the truck squashed it and turned it into a mangled wreck.

The wall was badly damaged, with several limestone blocks dislodged, but at least there is a good chance it will be repaired. The same probably can’t be said of the Punto.

The incident took place at around 3 p.m. when the trailer, being driven by a 40-year-old man from Qormi, mounted the central strip as it was being driven through Qormi Road, Luqa.

The truck driver was hospitalised and treated for slight injuries.

The police are investigating.
