Gozitan interior designer Francis Sultana has launched his first furniture collection in the elegant setting of Claridge’s in Mayfair, London.

Over the last 20 years, London-based Mr Sultana has designed many bespoke pieces for his discerning clients, but it is the first time he has produced a signature collection.

Taking his inspiration from the great couture houses of Paris, he will now show two collections a year, as well as continuing to create unique pieces to commission.

Mr Sultana, who was born and raised in Nadur, left for London in his gap year and has lived there ever since, accumulating two decades of experience, working with international visionary creatives including the likes of renowned Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.

His first collection is called Homage to the Art Deco and is inspired by his own early career, working for David Gill Galleries, for whom he became creative director.

Last year, at 38, he opened his eponymous showroom Francis Sultana Ltd on the Fulham Road in the heart of London.

Mr Sultana is passionate about rich materials, attention to luxurious detailing and harnessing the increasingly rare skills of dedicated craftsmen.

His collection, predominantly upholstery, tables and lighting, is founded on “noble” materials, such as cast bronze, silver and Macassar ebony.

Each fabric is specially commissioned and unique, including shimmering metallics, tortoiseshell-inspired silk velvets, rare cashmeres and even woven fur, sourced from Venice and the couture houses of Paris.
