Passenger movements at Malta International Airport grew by 5.8 per cent in May, despite a 4.7 per cent drop in aircraft movements and a 1.8 per cent fall in seat capacity when compared to the same month last year.
The airport said passenger movements last month reached the 325,000 mark while cargo and mail registered a two per cent drop.
The UK, German and French markets grew by 5.5 per cent, 21.3 per cent and seven per cent respectively, while the Spanish and Italian markets registered a drop of four per cent and 12 per cent.
The airport said passenger growth between January and May was of 15.3 per cent while aircraft movements registered an increase of 8.1 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
So far this year, seat capacity was 10.5 per cent higher while the average seat load factor increased by 2.9 percentage points.
